Frequently Asked Questions

There isn’t a single flat rate because auto transport pricing is based on real-time variables. At AAS, we calculate your transparent quote using five primary factors:

  • Total Distance: Cross-country routes cost more overall but have a lower rate per mile than short, regional trips.
  • Vehicle Size & Weight: Larger vehicles like SUVs and trucks take up more space on a carrier and cost more than standard sedans.Move.org
  • Transport Type: Open transport is our most cost-effective option; enclosed transport adds a premium.
  • Vehicle Condition: If your vehicle runs, it’s cheaper. Non-running (inoperable) vehicles require specialized winch equipment to load, which incurs an extra fee.
  • Seasonality: Peak moving seasons (like summer or the winter “snowbird” rush) see higher market demand.Top Auto Logistics

Transit times depend entirely on the total mileage of your route. Once our carrier picks up your vehicle, you can typically expect these timeframes:

  • Short Regional Routes (under 500 miles): 1–3 days
  • Medium Routes (500–1,500 miles): 3–5 days
  • Long-Distance / Cross-Country (1,500+ miles): 5–10 days

Note: For specialized routes like our Alaska barge services, transit windows will vary based on port sailing schedules.

The Bill of Lading (BOL) is the official receipt of transport and a detailed condition report. It is the most critical document in the shipping process.

How it works: At pickup, the driver performs a physical inspection and notes any pre-existing scratches or dents on the BOL. Upon delivery, you or your designated agent will inspect the vehicle again. In the rare event that new damage occurred during transit, it must be explicitly written on the Bill of Lading before you sign it to ensure a valid insurance claim.

Yes, completely. At AAS, your peace of mind is built into our process. We partner exclusively with licensed, USDOT-registered carriers who carry comprehensive cargo insurance. This coverage protects your vehicle against structural or cosmetic damage caused by carrier negligence or transport accidents from the moment it is loaded onto the trailer until it is safely delivered.

Legally, no. National Department of Transportation regulations strictly prohibit auto carriers from moving household goods inside transport vehicles.

However, as a courtesy, most carriers allow a small exception of up to 100 lbs of personal items, provided they are locked securely in the trunk or packed entirely below the window line. Please note that any personal items left inside the car are not covered by the carrier’s cargo insurance policy.

Yes, we specialize in convenient door-to-door vehicle logistics. We will pick up and deliver as close to your specified addresses as safely possible.

If your street features narrow residential lanes, tight cul-de-sacs, low-hanging trees, or local weight limits that an 80-foot transport carrier cannot legally maneuver, our driver will coordinate with you to meet at a safe, open nearby location (like a local shopping center parking lot).
